We are thrilled to welcome Laura Souza to the Community Foundation of Middlesex County!
Laura Souza has joined our team as the Director of Development and Community Outreach.
Laura is a Connecticut native and has built a career in leadership, community outreach, and fundraising. Before coming to CFMC, Laura served as the Assistant Director of Engagement at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester. Laura received a Bachelors of Science in Music Education from Western Connecticut State University and a Masters in Flute Performance from New York University. Before pursuing a Masters degree, Laura taught middle school band for three years in Connecticut where her ensembles received high accolades. Upon graduating from NYU, Laura performed regularly with her woodwind quintet and worked in the booking department at Columbia Artists Management Inc.
She met her husband, Hugo Souza, at NYU and they moved to the Rochester area in the summer of 2014 where Hugo pursued a doctorate in oboe performance at the Eastman School of Music. During her time at the Eastman School of Music, Laura managed events and stewardship needs for its Advancement Office. Laura was an active volunteer in the Rochester music scene, including serving as board member for the Rochester Flute Association. While in Rochester, she received an MBA from the University of Rochester’s Simon Business School and was a volunteer for the program.
She enjoys meeting new people, attending and performing live music , reading for fun, and spending as much time outside as possible.
She is excited to bring her skills and knowledge to CFMC:
“I grew up in Old Lyme, Connecticut and have family who live within and around Middlesex County. When my husband and I decided it was time to move back to Connecticut to be closer to family after the birth of our son, I actively sought out job openings that create opportunities and support the community in which I live. I wanted to further my career at an organization where I can use my skillset to help empower people to do good in their neighborhood. I am grateful to have found CFMC and am honored for the opportunity to serve this community.”
Laura lives in Niantic with her husband, Hugo, and their son, Ian Scott. They are exploring different neighborhoods in Middlesex County and are excited to put down roots in the community this year.
