CFMC Meaningful Monday Episode 50 – Essex Historical Society

Episode 50 – Celebrating our country’s 250th anniversary with our local historical societies.

On July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The journey toward this historic milestone is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and learn more about the many contributions and stories about our local communities.

Melissa Josefiak and Kate Savage, Essex Historical Society, share some of the many wonderful activities and speakers scheduled for the celebration of our 250th anniversary. Essex Historical Society will continue its packed calendar of fun family events, such as reenactments, hands-on experiences at the Pratt House, and walking tours of the three villages, so be sure to follow their activity calendar for many great opportunities.

Beyond those activities, Essex Historical Society is partnering with local businesses and organizations to highlight the many everyday people and activities of life in colonial America, such as an engaging talk about the properties and uses of witch hazel, a history of taverns in Connecticut discussion at the Gris, and the Women of ’76 which is an exploration of famous women of the era.
