Invest in our community through our grant making process

Grant making is the most direct and effective way the Community Foundation works with donors to support the community in which we live, work and play. Many caring individuals have set up Funds specifically for grant making and know that the Community Foundation will wisely invest in programs and services needed – now and forever – to improve the quality of life for all in Middlesex County. Two examples are the Middlesex Enhancement Fund and the Live Local Give Local Fund.

Directly support the work of the Community Foundation of Middlesex County

Gifts to support the operations of the Community Foundation empower us to fulfill our mission – “to improve the quality of life for all in Middlesex County” and to do even more to respond to community needs.

You may choose to make a donation to the Operations Fund or you may choose to join many of your neighbors and friends as a member of the Leadership Circle (President’s Society, Chairman’s Circle, and Community Benefactor), a giving circle established by donors who know that a community foundation does its best work when its operations are supported.

Community foundations offer flexibility and impact for your charitable giving. There are many options for you to consider. Think about what you want your gift to do, and we will work with you to find the best way for your donations to make a positive difference while taking maximum advantage of federal and state tax regulations.

The Community Foundation of Middlesex County is a collection of restricted and unrestricted “Funds” whose use is determined by donors and the Board of Directors. These endowed funds are pooled for investment purposes, accounted for separately, and annually provide income to make grants to charitable organizations. The use of income from unrestricted and field of interest funds is determined by a competitive process managed by the Foundation’s Grants Committee and approved by the Board of Directors. Foundation staff monitor grants to assure accountability.

You may establish a Named Unrestricted Fund where the Board of Directors determines the best use of the income to meet the ever changing needs of our community over time. You can also establish a Named Fund and determine its restricted purpose, for the benefit of one organization or a field of interest, such as the environment, the arts, education or a specific geographic area.

You may contribute to an established Fund and make gifts in honor or memory of others. The Middlesex Enhancement Fund, an unrestricted fund, has been created by the Board of Directors for gifts of any size from donors who want to provide help where it is most needed and will do the most good.
