funds_hennellyDr. John Hennelly spent his career as a leader in education, an English teacher, Language Arts Coordinator, Administrator and trusted Mentor. He joined the Middletown Public Schools (MPS) as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum/Instruction in 2000 and quickly became involved in many aspects of the school district and community.

During his nine years at MPS, John worked diligently to provide countless opportunities for both students and teachers to excel and managed top quality education programs serving the community. He oversaw the Mentor Program for First and Second Year Teachers, the 21st Century After School Grant, Summer Academic Enrichment Program, CAUSE (Community & University Services for Education), Silent Sounds and so much more. John’s commitment to education and the children in the Middletown district extended to the many councils and organizations of which he was an active member. John participated on the Middletown School Readiness Council, Middletown Public Schools Cultural Council, Middletown School Family Connection and Green Street Arts Center.

To celebrate John’s commitment to Middletown Schools, MPS employees honored his work upon his retirement by establishing the Dr. John Hennelly Fund at the Community Foundation of Middlesex County. This Designated Fund will support Middletown Public Schools and proceeds of the Fund will support K-12 fine and performing arts programs in the school district.
