CFMC Meaningful Monday Episode 52 – Middletown Animal Control

Episode 52 – We are surrounded by remarkable and passionate people who care deeply about Middlesex County.

Ever wonder what exactly an Animal Control Division does? Who are the people who commit their careers (and their off hours) to responding to public requests for assistance? Gail Petras, Animal Control Officer for the City of Middletown (CT), gives us a peek inside the office, sharing details about her work in Middletown.

Gail works on the frontline of animal welfare and public safety daily. Providing a look behind the badge, she shares what it truly means to be an animal control officer – combining proactive public safety with compassionate care. Her objective … always ensuring the protection of both animals and residents in the area.

Gail has also fielded a lot of requests from the public about how they can help support her Division and specific animals. Working with CFMC staff, Gail established the Shelter Pets Care & Comfort Fund. This Fund assists animals with spays/neuters and vaccinations prior to adoption and provides enrichment toys, training resources, and more complicated surgeries (which are sometimes unavoidable) for animals in need.

Her passion for the work clearly shines through, offering listeners a deeper appreciation for a role that does so much for the community and the furry friends who live within it.
